GM CEO Mary Barra to meet with Black media homeowners

5 min read

Normal Motors CEO Mary Barra will satisfy with Black-owned media leaders on Thursday, a GM spokesman stated.

The meeting follows an incendiary entire-website page ad that seven house owners of Black-owned media providers placed in Sunday’s Detroit Cost-free Press contacting Barra racist for refusing to satisfy with them and allocate much more of GM’s advertising dollars to the Black-owned media.

GM has denied the racist accusation and took concern with some other statements in the advert.

Mary Barra, the chairman and CEO of General Motors talks in a press conference with nine CEO's of Detroit's largest corporations at the Detroit City Council Auditorium with Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan. They were all there to talk and take a joint stand against racism and injustice on June 3, 2020

But on Monday GM’s Chief Marketing and advertising Officer Deborah Wahl had a preliminary meeting with Byron Allen, the head of Allen Media Team which owns the Weather Channel, and several of the adult men who signed the complete-page advert.

That conference was “constructive,” prompting the get-togethers to set up a stick to-up meeting with Barra for Thursday, said GM spokesman Pat Morrissey.

“We by no means mentioned we would not have a conference with Mr. Allen,” Morrissey explained. “We indicated we desired to have a preliminary meeting among our chief advertising officer and his workforce to lay out our broader approach on variety and Black-owned media, such as all advertising and marketing, marketing and sponsorship functions prior to a conference with Mary.”
